Quick answer

Cointra A01 means the burner does not light. Check the gas valve before the boiler is open and press reset for one second; if the boiler does not restart, stop resetting and call an authorised technician.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • If you smell gas, do not reset: do not touch switches or light flames, open windows, close the gas valve if it is within reach, leave and call your distributor's emergency number from outside. Cointra says to disconnect the boiler when it fails and have it repaired only by an authorised technician.
  • Do not chain resets with A01: if the boiler does not restart, Cointra says the fault must be fixed. Do not open the boiler or touch the electrode, valve, trap or ducts.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Gas smell first
  • Gas valve and supply
  • One reset with the reset key
  • Flue terminal and condensate drain, from outside
  • Gas, electrode and duct check by the technician

Leave these tasks to a qualified professional

  • Do not attempt this professional task: Gas pressure measurement
  • Do not attempt this professional task: Combustion check after the repair
  • Do not attempt this professional task: Electrode and gas valve check

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Gas pressure measurement

What they doThe technician measures the gas supply pressure upstream of the boiler with a gauge and compares it with Cointra's technical data table.

They must show youthe measured value against the table.

In writingthe pressure measured and whether it was a supply problem.

  2. Combustion check after the repair

What they doThe technician checks combustion values with an analyser as Cointra requires at commissioning.

They must show youthe analyser printout.

    In writingthe values measured.

  3. Electrode and gas valve check

What they doThe technician checks the electrode's position, connection and deposits and tests the gas valve.

They must show youthe electrode checked and the valve test.

In writingwhat was cleaned or replaced and why.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Gas smell first

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
without touching switches, notice whether it smells of gas near the boiler.
    Result that matters:
whether there is a gas smell.
    If it smells of gas:
do not reset; follow the gas warning on this page.
    If there is no smell:
    check the gas valve.
    Evidence to keep:
a note of the time and what you noticed.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  2. Gas valve and supply

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
check the gas valve before the boiler is open, as Cointra requires for start-up, and whether the gas hob works.
    Result that matters:
whether gas reaches the home and the boiler.
If the valve was closed or there is no gas at home:
open it or contact your distributor.
    If there is gas:
the cause is in the boiler or its ducts.
    Evidence to keep:
a photo of the valve and a note of whether the hob worked.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  3. One reset with the reset key

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
press the reset key for one second, as Cointra says for A faults.
    Result that matters:
whether the boiler restarts and keeps the flame.
    If it restarts:
note the date; if A01 returns, call the technician.
    If it does not restart:
Cointra says the fault must be fixed; call an authorised technician.
    Evidence to keep:
a photo of the display with A01 and the time.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  4. Flue terminal and condensate drain, from outside

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
look at the air and flue terminal from the ground or a window and, if visible, the condensate pipe, without touching anything.
    Result that matters:
whether they are covered, frozen or damaged.
    If you see a blockage:
tell the technician; Cointra lists blocked ducts and trap.
    If they are clear:
it points to gas, valve or electrode.
    Evidence to keep:
photos of the terminal and pipe.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  5. Gas, electrode and duct check by the technician

    Tools required

    Who:
    authorised gas technician.
    How:
measures gas pressure and checks the valve, electrode, trap and ducts.
    Result that matters:
which of Cointra's causes is present.
    If gas pressure is low:
    it is a supply problem.
    If it is correct:
it points to the electrode, valve or ducts.
    Evidence to keep:
a report with the pressure measured and the repair.

Cointra reserves repairs and component replacement for authorised technicians: gas, electrode, valve and ducts are not the user's job.

What it means

In the Superlative Plus fault table, A01 is burner does not light. Cointra gives several causes: no gas or air in the pipes, detection or ignition electrode fault, faulty gas valve, insufficient gas supply pressure, blocked trap or blocked air or flue duct. The letter A means a permanent lockout cleared with the reset key. The code does not say which of those causes is at work.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • No gas arrivingCommon

Cointra says to check gas reaches the boiler and there is no air in the pipes. It fits after a supply cut or with the valve closed.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  • Low gas pressure or gas valvePossible

Cointra says to check the gas supply pressure and the gas valve. Gas arrives but not enough; only a measurement shows it.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  • Detection or ignition electrodePossible

Cointra says to check the electrode is in place, connected and free of deposits. It fits if you hear ignition attempts that fail.

Evidence: Cointra SUPERLATIVE PLUS 24 C, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento

  • Blocked trap or air and flue ductsPossible

Cointra lists a blocked trap and blocked air or flue ducts. It fits with ice, nests or objects at the terminal.
