Quick answer

F05 on a Cointra CPE T or Supreme E TS room-sealed water heater indicates a fan fault or a wrongly configured board parameter. It is a temporary lockout: if it does not clear by itself, diagnosis belongs to an authorised gas technician.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • F05 together with a gas smell means closing the heater's gas tap if it is within reach, leaving lights and electrical devices alone, and leaving the home while ventilating it. Ring the gas emergency line from the street.
  • The F05 fan removes the room-sealed heater's flue gases; if a carbon monoxide alarm sounds or anyone has a headache or dizziness, everyone should go outside and seek urgent help.

Safe checks you can perform

  • See whether F05 clears on its own
  • Find the service history
  • Arrange a fan diagnosis

Leave these tasks to a qualified professional

  • Do not attempt this professional task: Verify the board parameter
  • Do not attempt this professional task: Inspect the wiring and fan
  • Do not attempt this professional task: Assess the board only as a last step

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Verify the board parameter

What they doThe authorised gas technician reads the board parameter named in the first F05 row and corrects it if it does not match the model and gas type.

They must show youthe value found and the correct value for your appliance.

In writingthe parameter checked, the final value and the operating test.

  2. Inspect the wiring and fan

What they doWith the appliance disconnected from the mains and the gas tap closed, the technician checks the fan wiring and the fan's operation, as the table directs.

They must show youthe connector or fan found to be defective.

In writingthe confirmed cause, the part repaired or replaced and the flue extraction check.

  3. Assess the board only as a last step

What they doIf the parameter, wiring and fan are sound, the technician assesses an electronic board fault before proposing a replacement.

They must show youwhy wiring and fan were ruled out.

In writingthe board diagnosis and the replacement reference if it is changed.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. See whether F05 clears on its own

    No special tools

    Who:
    you, from the front panel.
    How:
note the time F05 appears and wait a few minutes without pressing keys; watch whether the display alternates d3 and d4.
    Result that matters:
whether the temporary lockout resolves or stays.
If it clears and hot water returns:
note how often it recurs during the day.
    If it stays or returns:
stop using the appliance and call the service engineer.
    Evidence to keep:
times it appeared and a photo of the display.

Evidence: Cointra CPE T, instrucción de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. A73022110 Rev.03) · Cointra SUPREME E TS, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. 3541A273 Rev.01)

  2. Find the service history

    No special tools

    Who:
you, going through the household paperwork.
    How:
look for recent job sheets covering a board replacement, gas conversion or fan repair.
    Result that matters:
pointing the technician to the board parameter if work was done recently.
If a recent job sheet exists:
hand it over together with the F05 code.
    If there is no history:
say so, without guessing which part has failed.
    Evidence to keep:
a copy of the latest job sheet.

Evidence: Cointra CPE T, instrucción de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. A73022110 Rev.03) · Cointra SUPREME E TS, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. 3541A273 Rev.01)

  3. Arrange a fan diagnosis

    Tools required

    Who:
an authorised gas technician with access to the F05 fan.
    How:
they work through board parameter, wiring, fan and board in turn, following the F05 table.
    Result that matters:
a specific cause rather than a blind board swap.
If the wiring is at fault:
they should show you the corrected connection.
    If the fan has failed:
it must be replaced and extraction verified.
    Evidence to keep:
a job sheet with the F05 cause.

Fan and board work requires power off and gas closed, and is for a technician only.

What it means

The CPE T and Supreme E TS water heaters have a sealed chamber and a modulating fan that drives combustion. F05 covers two rows in Cointra's table: a wrongly configured board parameter, and a fan fault caused by broken wiring, a failed fan or a board fault. The letter F denotes a temporary lockout that clears automatically once the value returns to its normal range, so it is not reset with RESET. While waiting, the display may alternate d3 and d4.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Wrongly configured board parameterPossible

The first F05 row says to check the electronic board parameter and change it if necessary. This is a service setting: the manual itself changes a board parameter, for example, when the appliance is converted to another gas type.

Evidence: Cointra CPE T, instrucción de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. A73022110 Rev.03) · Cointra SUPREME E TS, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. 3541A273 Rev.01)

  • Broken fan wiringPossible

Cointra asks for the wiring to be checked when the fan does not respond. A loose connector or a cut wire stops the board receiving the fan's operating signal.

Evidence: Cointra CPE T, instrucción de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. A73022110 Rev.03) · Cointra SUPREME E TS, instrucciones de uso, instalación y mantenimiento (cod. 3541A273 Rev.01)

  • Failed fanPossible

The table allows for the fan itself having failed and refers to a fan check. In a room-sealed appliance, without the fan there is no proper flue extraction or air supply.

  • Electronic board faultPossible

The last cause in the fan row is a board fault, which the technician must confirm before replacing the board.
