Quick answer

Ferroli F41 means the maximum delta T protection between flow and return has tripped. With the boiler cold, read the gauge: it should show about 1 bar; if it is below 0.8 bar, top up and close the key. If F41 returns, call a technician.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • If you smell gas: do not switch lights or electrical appliances on or off, do not use anything that can spark and do not try to reset the boiler. Open the windows, leave the home and call your gas distributor's emergency number from outside.
  • If you have to top up often, there is a water leak: pressure drops and air gets in, which makes F41 more likely. Ferroli recommends checking the pressure regularly.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Gauge reading with the boiler cold
  • Top up with the filling key
  • When F41 appears
  • Inspection by the technician

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Measure the flow and return sensors

What they doThe technician checks the position of both sensors and measures their resistance with a multimeter against the manufacturer's table.

They must show youthe values measured against the manufacturer's specification.

In writingwhich sensor was replaced, its part number and why.

  2. Pump and circulation check

What they doThe technician checks that the pump runs and that water circulates through the whole system.

They must show youthe pump running and the flow and return temperatures during a demand.

    In writingthe pump condition.

  3. Bleeding and test

What they doThe technician bleeds the air from the system and tests the boiler on heating.

They must show youa full demand with no F41.

In writingthe bleeding done and the final cold pressure.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Gauge reading with the boiler cold

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
with the heating cold, read the boiler pressure gauge. Ferroli gives about 1 bar cold and says to restore it if it falls below 0.8 bar.
    Result that matters:
    the actual system pressure.
If it is below 0.8 bar:
top up in the next step.
    If it is correct:
pressure is ruled out; the cause is in the sensors, pump or air.
    Evidence to keep:
    photo of the gauge.

  2. Top up with the filling key

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
pull out the filling key under the boiler and turn it anticlockwise to about 1 bar while watching the gauge. Always close it afterwards.
    Result that matters:
the pressure settles at its value and the boiler runs the Fh cycle.
    If Fh appears:
the boiler is venting air for 300 seconds; let it finish.
If F41 returns with correct pressure:
    call the technician.
    Evidence to keep:
photo of the final pressure and the date.

Do not open the casing: the drain valve is inside the boiler.

  3. When F41 appears

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
note whether F41 shows soon after the heating starts or after a while, and whether it clears by itself, since F faults clear once back in the normal range.
    Result that matters:
whether it is a one-off or keeps returning.
    If it keeps returning:
call an authorised technician, as Ferroli asks.
    If it appeared once:
note the date and keep watching.
    Evidence to keep:
photos of the display with the time.

  4. Inspection by the technician

    Tools required

    Who:
an authorised heating and gas technician.
    How:
checks the position and operation of the flow and return sensors, checks the circulation pump and bleeds the air from the system.
    Result that matters:
which of the four causes in the table the measurements confirm.
If a sensor reads out of specification:
    that sensor is replaced.
    If the sensors are fine:
the pump, circulation and air are checked.
    Evidence to keep:
job sheet with the measurements and what was corrected.

Ferroli says repairs must be done only by authorised staff. The user does not open the boiler.

What it means

In the BlueHelix Tech RRT 28 C table, F41 is the maximum DELTA T protection tripping. The boiler compares the heating flow temperature with the return temperature, and this protection acts when the difference is too large. Ferroli gives four causes: faulty heating sensor, faulty return sensor, no water circulating in the system, or air in the system. It is a temporary F lockout. The code does not separate a real circulation problem from a sensor that reads wrong.

Warnings and stop conditions

  • Criticaleditorial warning

  • Mediumeditorial warning

If you have to top up often, there is a water leak: pressure drops and air gets in, which makes F41 more likely. Ferroli recommends checking the pressure regularly.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Faulty heating (flow) sensorPossible

If the flow sensor reads high, the gap to the return looks bigger than it is. It is confirmed by measuring the sensor against its table.

Evidence: Ferroli BLUEHELIX TECH RRT 28 C instrucciones de uso instalación y mantenimiento

  • Faulty return sensorPossible

The same effect from the other side: a return that reads low widens the gap. Ferroli says to check its position and operation.

Evidence: Ferroli BLUEHELIX TECH RRT 28 C instrucciones de uso instalación y mantenimiento

  • No water circulating in the systemPossible

With poor circulation the water gets very hot in the boiler and returns cold. Ferroli says to check the circulation pump.

Evidence: Ferroli BLUEHELIX TECH RRT 28 C instrucciones de uso instalación y mantenimiento

  • Air in the systemPossible

Air pockets slow circulation. Ferroli says to bleed the air; after pressure is restored the boiler runs the Fh cycle.
