Quick answer

This Zaptec app message means the charger ended the session because the car started and stopped charging too many times. Unplug and firmly replug the cable, check the car's charging settings and restart the charging station.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • Only switch off the charger's circuit breaker if you know which one it is and it is safe to do so; if unsure, Zaptec says not to guess and to call your installer or an electrician.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Unplug and firmly replug the cable
  • Check the car's charging settings
  • Try another cable and another car
  • Restart the charging station without opening it

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Car charging system diagnosis at the dealer

What they doIf the warning only appears with your car, the garage or dealer checks the charging settings and the vehicle's AC charging system.

They must show youthe car's charging settings and a test session that does not cut out.

In writingwhich settings or updates were applied and the result of the test charge.

  2. Station check by a Zaptec service partner

What they doIf the message persists with another car and cable, the dealer, service partner or Zaptec support checks the station and the installation.

They must show youthe session history with the stops and the check of the station and its circuit.

In writingthe case number, the car model and cable used, what was checked and whether anything was replaced.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Unplug and firmly replug the cable

    No special tools

    Who:
    you, no tools.
    How:
unplug the charging cable from the car and the charging station, wait a few seconds and plug it back in firmly at both ends, which is Zaptec's first step.
    Result that matters:
charging starting again and continuing without the message.
    If it charges normally:
it was temporary; note the date in case it returns.
    If the message returns:
move on to the car's settings.
    Evidence to keep:
an app screenshot of the message with the time and how long charging ran before it stopped.

Evidence: Charging has been stopped too many times - what is means and how to solve it

  2. Check the car's charging settings

    No special tools

    Who:
you, in the car or its app.
    How:
look in the car or its app for schedules, limits or modes that automatically stop and restart charging, and switch them off to test. Zaptec names these settings as a common cause of repeated restarts.
    Result that matters:
a full session without the car cutting and resuming charging.
If with the setting off, charging runs without cuts:
the cause was the car's configuration.
If there are no such settings or the warning persists:
    try another cable or car.
    Evidence to keep:
which settings were active and which ones you changed.

Evidence: Charging has been stopped too many times - what is means and how to solve it

  3. Try another cable and another car

    No special tools

    Who:
you, if another compatible cable or car is available.
    How:
if possible, charge with a different cable and, separately, another car on the same station, as Zaptec suggests to isolate the cause.
    Result that matters:
knowing whether the warning follows the car, the cable or the station.
If another cable or car charges without the message:
the issue is likely the original cable, car or its settings.
If the warning also appears with another car and cable:
contact your dealer or Zaptec support.
    Evidence to keep:
the car model and cable used in each test and whether the message appeared.

Evidence: Charging has been stopped too many times - what is means and how to solve it

  4. Restart the charging station without opening it

    No special tools

    Who:
you, from the Zaptec app or, if it does not respond, from its circuit breaker.
    How:
if the station shows online, open the Zaptec app, tap the gear icon next to the charger and choose Restart charging station. If it does not respond, make sure no one is charging, switch off the circuit breaker that feeds the charger, wait 10 seconds and switch it back on. Zaptec is clear that you should not guess: if you do not know which breaker it is, leave it alone.
    Result that matters:
the station coming back online and the next session running without the message.
If the message is gone after the restart:
note the date and time and keep using the charger as normal.
If the message comes back or the charger does not respond after a few minutes:
stop restarting and contact your installer or Zaptec support.
    Evidence to keep:
which restart method you used, the light colour afterwards and whether the app shows the charger online or offline.

Known code variants

  • La carga se ha detenido demasiadas veces
  • Zaptec carga detenida demasiadas veces
  • Zaptec charging stopped too many times
  • Zaptec charging stops repeatedly
  • Zaptec demasiados reinicios de carga
  • Zaptec Go charging stopped too many times
  • Zaptec too many charging restarts

What it means

According to the Zaptec Help Centre, the charging station monitors how often the car restarts charging during a session and stops it to reduce wear on internal components once a limit is reached: 20 restarts or more within one hour, 20 or more during the whole session, or more than 20 plus the number of hours since the session started. Zaptec says you do not need to know which limit was hit and points mainly to the car, its settings or the cable. It is a protection, and the message on its own never proves that a part is faulty.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Car settings that stop and restart chargingCommon

Zaptec asks you to look for settings in the car that automatically stop and restart charging, because they cause the repeated restarts that trigger the protection.

  • Charging cable poorly seated or faultyPossible

Zaptec's first step is to unplug and firmly replug the cable at both ends; if another cable charges without the warning, the issue is likely the original cable.

  • Behaviour of the car itselfPossible

If another car charges on the same station without the message, Zaptec says the issue is likely with the original car or its settings.

  • Station or installation needing checksLess common

If the warning persists with another car or cable, Zaptec refers you to its dealer, service partner or support to check the station and the installation.
