Risk level

Low

Usually safe to check without specialist tools.

Urgency

Medium

Quick answer

If your UniFi access point LED is blue and flashes off every 5 seconds, Ubiquiti says it lost network connectivity and is searching for a wireless uplink. Check the cable and any recent switch changes first, and see whether the app shows it as Isolated.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • A factory reset wipes the device configuration and the physical button does not remove it from the application: you must remove it there and adopt it again.
  • If the LED flashes quickly white and blue, the device is upgrading firmware: do not unplug it.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Confirm the pattern and the app status
  • Undo recent changes or move the APs closer
  • Check whether the device has an IP address
  • Last step: reset, remove and re-adopt

Leave these tasks to a qualified professional

  • Do not attempt this professional task: Network review by your installer
  • Do not attempt this professional task: Open a case with Ubiquiti support

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Network review by your installer

What they doWhoever installed or manages your UniFi network checks port VLAN tagging, possible loops, rogue DHCP servers and any rules affecting TCP port 8080.

They must show youthe device IP, the switch port configuration and the rule that was blocking traffic.

In writingwhat was changed on the network and the device status afterwards.

  2. Open a case with Ubiquiti support

What they doIf after a reset, removal and re-adoption the device is still isolated or offline, Ubiquiti support reviews the case.

They must show youthe steps tried, the device IP and the LED pattern.

In writingthe case number, the diagnosis and whether a warranty replacement (RMA) applies.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Confirm the pattern and the app status

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
watch the LED for half a minute: it should be blue and briefly go off every 5 seconds; then open UniFi Network and see whether the device is listed as Isolated or offline.
    Result that matters:
telling this apart from a firmware upgrade (quick white and blue flashing), which must not be interrupted.
If it is blue going off every 5 seconds:
move on to cabling and recent changes.
If it flashes quickly white and blue:
it is upgrading, wait and keep it powered.
    Evidence to keep:
video of the LED and a screenshot of the app status.

  2. Undo recent changes or move the APs closer

    No special tools

    Who:
you, or whoever manages the network.
    How:
if the AP is wired, think whether switch ports, subnets or firewall rules were changed recently and revert them; if it is meshed, move it closer to the AP that feeds it.
    Result that matters:
the device regaining its uplink and the LED turning steady blue.
    If it turns steady blue:
it is adopted again and broadcasting WiFi.
    If nothing changes:
check whether it has an IP address.
    Evidence to keep:
list of reverted changes and the time.

  3. Check whether the device has an IP address

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
in UniFi Network go to Settings > Networks and open IP Leases for that network, or use the WiFiman app (Discovery tab) while connected to a WiFi on your UniFi setup.
    Result that matters:
knowing whether the device gets a valid IP from your network.
If it is missing or shows 192.168.1.20:
the issue is in VLANs, loops or DHCP, best reviewed by whoever installed the network.
If it has an expected IP:
make sure TCP port 8080 is not blocked by a firewall or antivirus.
    Evidence to keep:
screenshot of IP Leases or WiFiman showing the device IP.

    Evidence: UniFi device connectivity troubleshooting

  4. Last step: reset, remove and re-adopt

    No special tools

    Who:
you, if the steps above did not fix it.
    How:
factory reset the AP with its button (5 to 10 seconds depending on the model, or until the LED shows the restore has begun) while keeping it powered, remove it in UniFi Devices > AP > Settings > Remove and adopt it again.
    Result that matters:
the device starting clean and being adopted again.
If it adopts and stays steady blue:
    reapply your settings if needed.
If it still will not connect:
for a meshed AP, wire it and update it before repeating, or contact Ubiquiti support.
    Evidence to keep:
reset date and final status in the app.

Known code variants

  • punto de acceso UniFi azul se apaga cada 5 s
  • UniFi access point isolated
  • UniFi AP aislado luz azul
  • UniFi AP blue light blinking every 5 seconds
  • UniFi AP searching for wireless uplink
  • UniFi blue and flashing off every 5s
  • UniFi Isolated
  • UniFi lost network connectivity LED
  • UniFi luz azul parpadea cada 5 segundos
  • UniFi sin conexión a la red led azul

What it means

In UniFi's official LED guide (access points, routers, switches and the UDM), blue flashing off every 5 seconds means the access point lost network connectivity and is searching for a wireless uplink. Ubiquiti adds that the device has no connectivity with your network and may show as Isolated if it cannot reach the UniFi Console on its management network but another AP can see it; on the UDM the same pattern means no Internet. The LED alone never proves the device is faulty.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Recent switch, subnet or firewall changesCommon

For wired APs, Ubiquiti says a change to switch ports, subnets or firewall rules is the most likely thing that interrupted connectivity.

    Evidence: UniFi Isolated Devices

  • Weak mesh signalPossible

For wirelessly meshed APs, Ubiquiti says a device may become isolated when there is not enough signal strength between the APs.

    Evidence: UniFi Isolated Devices

  • No IP address or the fallback IPPossible

If the device has no IP or shows the 192.168.1.20 fallback IP, Ubiquiti says to review switch port tagging (VLANs), network loops or a rogue DHCP server.

    Evidence: UniFi device connectivity troubleshooting

  • TCP port 8080 blockedLess common

Ubiquiti asks that the device and the UniFi application can reach each other on TCP port 8080 and that no local firewall or antivirus blocks it.
