Quick answer

If the tyre pressure lamp lights up steadily, one or more tyres have lost a lot of pressure or are damaged: slow down, stop as soon as it is safe and check them all. If it flashes, the system has a fault.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • Low or uneven tyre pressure can damage a tyre and cause loss of control. With the lamp on steadily, slow down, avoid sudden manoeuvres and stop as soon as possible.
  • Do not rely only on the indicator: SEAT asks you to check tyre pressure and condition regularly, because it may react late in sporty driving, on snow or on unpaved roads.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Stop and check every tyre
  • Measure cold pressures with a gauge
  • Recalibrate after correcting

Leave these tasks to a qualified professional

  • Do not attempt this professional task: Tyre inspection at the workshop

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Tyre inspection at the workshop

What they doThe workshop removes and examines the tyre that lost pressure, decides whether it can be repaired or must be replaced and sets all pressures.

They must show youthe damage or puncture found and the pressure measured in each tyre.

In writingthe measured pressures, whether the tyre was repaired or replaced and that the indicator was recalibrated.

  2. Diagnosis of the system fault

What they doIf the lamp flashes and stays after recalibration, the workshop reads the ABS and ESC fault memory, whose wheel sensors the pressure indicator relies on.

They must show youthe fault memory readout with stored or pending codes and the wheel sensor signals.

In writingthe codes, any part replaced and whether codes were cleared before or after the repair.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Stop and check every tyre

    No special tools

    Who:
you, as soon as you can stop somewhere safe.
    How:
slow down without sudden steering or braking, as SEAT advises, stop and look at all four tyres for cuts, bulges or objects stuck in them.
    Result that matters:
knowing whether a tyre is damaged or punctured.
If you see a damaged or flat tyre:
do not keep driving on it; change the wheel or use the tyre repair kit as the manual explains.
    If you see no damage:
    measure the pressures before continuing.
    Evidence to keep:
photos of each tyre and of the cluster message.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

  2. Measure cold pressures with a gauge

    Tools required

    Who:
you, with cold tyres and a pressure gauge.
    How:
compare each tyre with the label on the rear of the front left door frame. SEAT asks you to adapt the pressure to the load and always check it cold.
    Result that matters:
all four tyres set to the label pressure.
If one tyre was low with no visible damage:
correct it and drive at moderate speed to a specialist workshop to have it checked.
    If all were correct:
it may be an uncalibrated circumference change or a fault; go on to calibration.
    Evidence to keep:
note of the pressure measured in each tyre before and after.

Measure somewhere safe away from traffic, with the parking brake on and the engine off.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

  3. Recalibrate after correcting

    No special tools

    Who:
    you, with the ignition on.
    How:
with the pressures correct, save the new inflation pressure in the Infotainment system: function button > SETTINGS > Tyres. The system then finishes calibrating itself over a long drive at varied speeds.
    Result that matters:
the lamp going out and the system monitoring the new pressures.
If the lamp was flashing and still does after switching the ignition off and on and recalibrating with correct pressures:
    go to a specialist workshop.
If it goes out and stays out:
the warning came from the pressure or the wheel change.
    Evidence to keep:
photo of the menu after saving and of the cluster with no lamp.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

What it means

In the SEAT Ateca owner's manual (MY21, edition 11/20), the lamp on means the pressure of one or more tyres is much lower than the value saved by the driver, or a tyre has structural damage; a chime sounds and a message such as 'Loss of pressure: Check left tyre pressure!' appears. If it flashes for about a minute then stays on, there is a system fault. The system compares wheel speeds using the ABS sensors. Other models may differ. The warning alone does not prove that a part is faulty.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Very low pressure in one or more tyresCommon

The main cause SEAT gives: the inflation pressure is much lower than the value the driver saved, for example after a puncture.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

  • Structural tyre damagePossible

SEAT states the lamp also lights if the tyre has structural damage that changes its rolling circumference.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

  • Wheels or pressures changed without calibratingPossible

After changing pressures or wheels, or fitting the temporary spare or snow chains, the rolling circumference changes and the indicator must be recalibrated.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)

  • System fault (lamp flashes)Less common

If the lamp flashes for about a minute and then stays on, the system has a fault; it also does not work when there is an ESC or ABS fault.

Evidence: SEAT Ateca owner's manual MY21 edition 11/20 (EN)
