Power Production LED Solid Amber
Enphase Power Production LED amber: microinverter not producing

Quick answer
A solid amber Power Production LED on the IQ Gateway means a microinverter that is expected to produce is not producing. Check in the app which ones, make sure in daylight that the solar breakers are ON and pass the details to your installer.
Safety first
Stop and check this first
- Do not disconnect AC or DC connectors: Enphase requires the AC branch to be de-energised before servicing and forbids disconnecting under load.
- Do not try to repair or open a microinverter: Enphase says it has no user serviceable parts and is replaced through an RMA.
Safe checks you can perform
- See which microinverters are not producing in the app
- Solar circuit breakers in the ON position
- Look again in daylight
- Look at the Device Communications LED at the same time

What a technician must be able to justify
Technician visit
These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.
These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.
Grid voltage and frequency check
What they doIf no microinverter produces, the installer measures grid voltage at the solar breakers and branch junction boxes and confirms frequency with the network operator if needed.
They must show youthe readings at the consumer unit and at the branch junction box.
In writingthe voltages measured, whether they were in range and what was corrected.
Check AC connectors and module voltage on the affected unit
What they doWith the AC branch de-energised, the installer checks that the microinverter AC connectors are fully seated in the cable and that the module reaches start-up voltage.
They must show youthe affected microinverter producing in the app after the check.
In writingthe microinverter serial number, what was found and what was replaced.
Swap test and RMA with Enphase
What they doIf the fault remains, the installer swaps DC leads with a known good adjacent module: if the problem moves it is the module; if it stays it is the microinverter and a replacement is requested from Enphase.
They must show youthe result of the swap in the monitoring (it can take up to 30 minutes).
In writingthe RMA number, the removed and new serial numbers, and who pays for labour.
Before accepting a part or repair
Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.
Follow these steps
Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.
See which microinverters are not producing in the app
- Who:
- you, with the Enphase app on your phone.
- How:
- open the array view at a sunny time and look for modules showing zero or no data. Enphase says to check in the app which microinverters are affected.
- Result that matters:
- knowing whether it is all of them, a whole row or branch, or one or a few scattered units.
- If none produce or a whole branch fails:
- it points to the grid, a breaker or wiring; continue with the consumer unit.
- If one or a few scattered units fail:
- it points to those connectors or modules; note their position for the installer.
- Evidence to keep:
- a screenshot of the array view with date and time at a sunny moment.

Solar circuit breakers in the ON position
- Who:
- you, looking at the consumer unit without opening it or touching wiring.
- How:
- find the breakers labelled for the solar panels or microinverters and check that each lever is up (ON). Enphase states that the IQ Gateway can only communicate with the microinverters when those PV breakers are ON.
- Result that matters:
- knowing whether the solar branch has grid power or is switched off.
- If one is off:
- switch it on once; if it trips again, leave it off and call your installer.
- If all are on:
- the problem is not there; move on to the next check.
- Evidence to keep:
- a photo of the consumer unit showing each breaker position, with the time.

Look again in daylight
- Who:
- you, with no tools.
- How:
- check the IQ Gateway LEDs again in sunny hours, mid morning or around midday. Enphase explains that PV modules only power the microinverters in daylight and that, without enough sunlight, the microinverters cannot communicate with the gateway.
- Result that matters:
- ruling out a warning caused only by low light, night time or dawn.
- If in sunlight the LED turns solid green:
- it was low light and nothing needs doing.
- If in sunlight it stays amber:
- there is a real problem; note the time and continue with the other checks.
- Evidence to keep:
- a photo of the LEDs with the time and the weather (sunny, overcast, snow on the panels).

Look at the Device Communications LED at the same time
- Who:
- you, with no tools, in front of the IQ Gateway.
- How:
- look at the Device Communications LED on the same gateway. Enphase says microinverters do not report production if they are not communicating with the gateway, and solid amber means at least one device is not communicating.
- Result that matters:
- knowing whether it is a production or a communication problem.
- If Device Communications is green:
- the units communicate but one is not producing; tell your installer exactly that.
- If Device Communications is also amber:
- it may be a communication fault; follow that page too.
- Evidence to keep:
- a photo of all four gateway LEDs at once, with the time.

What it means
According to the IQ Gateway Metered manual, the Power Production LED is solid green when all microinverters are producing, flashes green during a device upgrade, flashes amber when devices are not yet detected and turns solid amber when any microinverter expected to produce is not. Enphase separates three patterns: none producing (grid or wiring), all affected on the same branch (that branch breaker or wiring) or a single unit (connector or module start-up voltage, usually 22 V). The warning alone never proves a microinverter is faulty.

Symptoms and causes
Probable causes · in order
- No grid or grid out of rangePossible
If no microinverter is producing, Enphase says to verify grid voltage and frequency first, then the breaker and wiring starting at the consumer unit.
Evidence: IQ Gateway Metered Installation and Operation Manual (Great Britain), 141-00035 Rev 01
- Fault on one branchPossible
If all non-productive microinverters are on the same branch, the check starts at that branch breaker and the junction box for that branch.
Evidence: IQ Gateway Metered Installation and Operation Manual (Great Britain), 141-00035 Rev 01
- AC connector not seated or module below start-up voltagePossible
With one or a few scattered units, Enphase names AC connectors not fully seated or a module not reaching the start-up voltage, usually 22 V.
Evidence: IQ Gateway Metered Installation and Operation Manual (Great Britain), 141-00035 Rev 01
- Microinverter not communicatingPossible
Microinverters do not report production if they are not communicating with the gateway, so a communication fault also lights this warning.
