Quick answer

Your Pixel shows No SIM card, or No SIM next to a gray carrier name: it has no SIM or the SIM is inactive. Check Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs and turn on Use SIM, then check that the SIM is seated, clean and undamaged.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • Use the ejection tool or a small paperclip and push firmly but gently; if the card is bent or damaged, do not force it back in and ask your carrier for a new one.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Check that the SIM is turned on
  • Inspect and reseat the SIM
  • Power off, then try the SIM elsewhere

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. New SIM from your carrier

What they doIf the SIM is damaged, too old for Pixel 8 and later or fails in another phone, your carrier checks the line and issues a new SIM.

They must show youthe line and SIM status on their system.

In writingthe new SIM details and activation date.

  2. Carrier check for outages and plan changes

What they doIf the steps do not help, your carrier checks for outages and changes to your plan that would deactivate the SIM.

They must show youthe line status.

In writingthe case number and the fix agreed.

  3. Google support when the SIM works elsewhere

What they doIf your SIM works in another phone but not in your Pixel, contact Google support about the device.

They must show youthe diagnostic they run on the SIM slot.

In writingthe repair or replacement offered.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Check that the SIM is turned on

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
open Settings > Network & Internet > SIMs and select your carrier. If the SIM is inactive, turn on Use SIM.
    Result that matters:
whether the carrier name stops being gray.
    If it does:
the SIM was simply turned off.
    If no SIM is listed:
insert a physical SIM or download the eSIM your carrier gives you.
    Evidence to keep:
    Screenshot of the SIMs screen.

    Evidence: Fix mobile connectivity issues

  2. Inspect and reseat the SIM

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
with the phone off, push the ejection tool or a small paperclip into the tray hole firmly but gently and take out the SIM. Wipe a dirty card with a microfiber cloth and put it back.
    Result that matters:
whether the card is damaged, bent or dirty, and whether the phone reads it afterwards.
If it is damaged or bent:
ask your carrier for a replacement.
If it is fine and still not read:
power cycle and test it in another phone.
    Evidence to keep:
    Photo of the card.

  3. Power off, then try the SIM elsewhere

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
power the phone off, not restart, wait 30 seconds and turn it on. If that fails, try airplane mode on and off, reset mobile network settings in Settings > System > Reset options, and try your SIM in another phone.
    Result that matters:
whether the other phone reads your SIM.
    If it does not:
the SIM is the problem; contact your carrier.
    If it does:
your Pixel needs support; contact Google.
    Evidence to keep:
    Result in each phone.

What it means

Google explains that if the carrier name is gray and the message No SIM appears, you either don't have a SIM or your SIM is inactive. It applies to a physical nano SIM and to an eSIM. Other reasons Google gives are a damaged, bent or dirty card and older SIM cards that are not supported on Pixel 8 and later, which show This SIM is no longer supported. Contact your carrier to get a new SIM. The message describes the SIM or its activation, not a fault in the phone.
