Quick answer

On a Candy washer, E3 (or 3 flashes on models without a display) means it does not drain water. Check the filter is not clogged or holding foreign bodies and the drain hose is not bent, kinked or trapped.

Safety first

Stop and check this first

  • Unplug the washer before opening the filter and let the water cool if you have just washed hot; it comes out fast and can scald or flood the floor.

Safe checks you can perform

  • Filter and its compartment
  • Drain hose
  • Household drain

What a technician must be able to justify

Technician visit

These are the steps they must carry out and show you. Tick them as they work: if steps are skipped, do not accept a part swap.

These are not instructions for opening or handling the equipment yourself. They are the checks that should support a technical conclusion.

  1. Drain pump check

What they doThe technician checks the pump, its impeller and the internal ducts and, with a multimeter, the pump and its wiring against Candy's specification.

They must show youthe blockage found or the measured pump value against the specification.

In writingthe cause, the part replaced with its part number and the reason.

  2. Test drain

What they doAfter the repair, the technician runs a rinse and spin and checks it empties without E3.

They must show youa complete drain with no code.

In writingthe test carried out, the result and the date.

Before accepting a part or repair

Nothing has been shown yet. Do not accept a part swap based on the code alone.

Follow these steps

Note: Follow the documented order. An error code identifies the affected system, but it does not prove by itself which part has failed.

  1. Filter and its compartment

    No special tools

    Who:
you, with the washer unplugged, a tray and cloths.
    How:
open the filter flap, let the water out slowly into the tray, remove the filter and clear lint or objects from the filter and compartment; close it properly again.
    Result that matters:
ruling out the filter slowing the water.
If there were objects or lint:
after cleaning, run a spin and see whether it drains.
    If it was clean:
    check the hose.
    Evidence to keep:
photo of what was in the filter.

  2. Drain hose

    No special tools

    Who:
    you, with the washer unplugged.
    How:
pull the washer out and check the drain hose is not bent, kinked or trapped.
    Result that matters:
ruling out the hose blocking the outlet.
    If it was bent:
straighten it and try a drain.
    If it is fine:
    test the household drain.
    Evidence to keep:
    photo of the hose.

  3. Household drain

    No special tools

    Who:
    you.
    How:
check the house drain lets water through freely; try draining the washer water into the sink.
    Result that matters:
separating a household blockage from a washer fault.
If it empties fine into the sink:
the blockage is in the house drain.
If it does not empty into the sink either:
contact a Candy authorised service centre.
    Evidence to keep:
note of the result of each test.

What it means

Candy's official manual defines E3 as the washing machine does not drain water. The drain pump has to push water through the filter and hose to the household drain; if the water does not leave, the washer stops. Candy asks you to check the filter and its compartment, the drain hose and the household drain itself, trying to empty the water into the sink. If all of that is fine and the error returns, it refers you to an authorised service centre. E3 alone does not prove the pump has failed.

Symptoms and causes

Probable causes · in order

  • Filter clogged or holding objectsCommon

Coins, buttons or lint in the filter slow the water; you see them when you open the filter compartment.

Evidence: Candy WM Rapidó user manual IT/DE/EN/ES/FR (43032408)

  • Drain hose bent or trappedPossible

A kink behind the washer blocks the outlet; you see it when you pull the machine out.

Evidence: Candy WM Rapidó user manual IT/DE/EN/ES/FR (43032408)

  • Household drain blockedPossible

If the hose empties fine into the sink but not into its usual drain, the blockage is in the house plumbing.

Evidence: Candy WM Rapidó user manual IT/DE/EN/ES/FR (43032408)

  • Drain pumpPossible

With filter, hose and drain in good order, if E3 returns, the service checks the pump.
